Three things that catch beauty & personal care importers out

Expiry dates shrink your margin window

Unlike phone accessories, skincare and makeup have a shelf life. Slow-moving stock isn't just tied-up capital — it can become unsellable. Order depth in proven sellers, not breadth across untested shades and formulas.

Compliance is stricter for health-adjacent products

Standard cosmetics move through customs like other consumer goods, but products reading as health or ingestible-adjacent draw more scrutiny from Cameroon's standards agency (ANOR). If you source supplements alongside cosmetics, check registration requirements separately.

Fragrance can jump to the 30% bracket

Skincare, haircare, and makeup are typically Category III at 20%, but perfumes are explicitly Category IV at 30%. If your order mixes cosmetics and fragrance, they are not taxed at the same rate — split the calculation.
